about

The concluding movement is a requiem to summer. The 4th movement continues the gentle melancholic theme with flute solo, while a French horn plays counter melody, backed by brass and strings. Although a slow 70bpm requiem pace is set by the first half of the movement, there are surprises within this later as it goes from that requiem in 3/4 to a lullabyesque piece with the help of a glockenspiel, followed by a waltz, where tuba takes the melody to its concluding segment. A change to 4/4 is heralded by flute, clarinet and French horn, pizzicato strings, cellos and bass, before the entire orchestra, including piano, return.
